broken mirror

A friend asked me what it meant

To be made in God’s image

At first I didn’t know just what to say

I thought I might see clearer, if I went to the mirror

And what I saw didn’t look anything like him

So I went to the Scripture, to get the bigger picture

And there I found someone that looks like him

It seems we’d started out okay,

But we messed up along the way

This man Jesus bore God’s image once again.

Here’s my life, oh my God, make me in the image of your Son

That I may be like you.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart

Be acceptable to you.

What does the Lord require of thee?

But to do justice and love mercy

And to walk humbly with your God

All we like sheep have gone astray

Each one has turned to his own way

And that is why we don’t look anything like him

He is knocking at your door

Just how long can you ignore

The only One who died to pay for all your sins

So throw away your mirror

And you will see much clearer

The image of the one who died and rose again

Here’s my life, oh my God, make me in the image of your Son

That I may be like you.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart

Be acceptable to you.
